Hello,

We have an application installed on Red Hat Linux 7.3. The application
has many cryptographic librararies.
So we need to display a text message everytime the machine reboots. This
message should be displayed before the login prompt comes.

Could you all let me know, which file I need to place the text message
in ?

Thanks in Advance,
Sarika

man motd
However this will give the message on every login
screen

or you can put a message in rc.local

motd is not displayed until after login, same with anything
you put in rc.local. If you put it in /etc/issue it will be
displayed before the login prompt, but be careful Redhat like
to overwrite /etc/issue everytime the system boots.

Out of curiosity, what do the crypto libs
have to do with displaying a message before login?

Was this extraneous information or do the
init routines take a lot of time generating
seeds, keys, and 'what not' before a login
prompt becomes available; and you just want
to inform the user about the delay? (in which
case /etc/issue probably won't help you)

I presume that he meant "cryptic" libraries (libraries which he didn't
understand) rather than "cryptographic" libraries (libraries which
transform data so that other people won't be able to understand it).

There should be a section in /etc/rc.local that updates /etc/issue.
