Now that's an  interesting solutions.
I assumed that it was some form of chroot jail?
But your solutions would save on floor space, network, power
connections. You could even get something like a Sun E450 and
run virtual Linux in it.

though vmware is surprisingly efficient, the overhead is still pretty 
heavy. there are some cases where its the only way to have more than one 
user per physical server, but i would never even consider using it for 
anything that can be done by traditional means.

   A sendmail question: Can I take the /var/spool/mqueue directory (with 
mails to be sent, of course) and put it in another computer?

Yes (at least, it worked when I last tried it). But make sure that you
preserve ownership, permissions etc, and don't delete the original
until you've confirmed that the copy was processed successfully.
