I've considered splitting the branch up like so, but have not found
a model that seems feasible. New platforms are intermingled and there
are often cleanups etc that crosses multiple targets. Forcing a cleaner
split of such work would seem to result in more work for everyone
involved.
I will invest some time to think about this.

I generally don't rebase these branches, so starting earlier and then
