Hello,

I checked the archiv to answer my questions but unfortunally i didn't find
anything which helps me, so please don't be irritated if tjis questions
already was asked.

My question is regarding the Bluetooth Security Levels 1, 2 and 3.

How can I see which one is actually used by an active connection ? With
hcidump maybe ? But what for I have to search than ?

So I want to read out the actually security level and also I want to change
it to see how my peer device will react.

Thank you very much for your help.

the is no difference between the security mode 1 and 2 and the presence
security mode 3 is only visible with hcidump. However don't care about
the security modes. They are an abstract definition for pairing and when
authentication/encryption should be requested.

Regards

Marcel

Hi Marcel,

thanks for the fast replay. But can you please show me how I can see if it
is used Security level 3 in the hcidump ? Maybe you can post some line where
I can search for ?

And the other question is why there is no differnec between Level 1 and 2 ?
I thought in level 2 there must be an authentication before starting an
active communication ? maybe I am wrong ?

Thanks

if you see a pin code or a link key request before the connect complete
event, then at least one device is in security mode 3.

For devices in security mode 2, the service (profile) decides when to
requests authentication (pairing). If you have an OBEX push profile
running which normally doesn't needs authentication, then what is the
difference compared to security mode 1?

Forget about the crappy security modes, because they are useless. The
only important thing is mode 1. It says that both sides must support it
and that you must authenticate before you can start encryption.

Regards

Marcel

as I said before, run "hcidump -X -V" you really see what's happening.
However I speculate that device has inquiry scan of and page scan off or
the role switch is failing.

Marcel
