Hi all,
Can anyone help me pair my Palm Vx (using a TDK Systems Blue5 attachment)
with FC4 (using a USB bluetooth dongle)?
I've followed the instructions up to step 6 on this page (but no further,
since I'm not interested yet in getting Internet access, I just want to
pair and transfer files over bluetooth):
http://www.metacon.ca/bcs/view.php?page=bluetooth
I've got to the stage where I can see the linux box from the Palm, and
I can see the Palm from the linux box, but I can't seem to work out
how to get them to pair.
When I select 'Pair' from the Palm menu, I get prompted for a Passkey,
and I give it the passkey in /etc/bluetooth/pin - but it always without
fail returns with either:
Bluetooth connect failed (L2CAP error) (0x801E)
or
Bluetooth timeout (0x803C)
I'm definitely giving it the right pin!
Any ideas? Rather than post a whole heap of diagnostic info that may
well be useless to you, I throw myself on the mercy of the list to
suggest what diagnostics I should be supplying.
Is there any way to initiate the pair from the linux end?
cheers,
ian

run "hcidump -X -V" as root while trying to pair.
> Is there any way to initiate the pair from the linux end?
Yes, but in general Linux only pairs when needed. Send your data and if
pairing is needed the PIN will be requested.
Regards
Marcel

Hi Marcel,
This is what I get:
$ hcidump -X -V
HCI sniffer - Bluetooth packet analyzer ver 1.18
device: hci0 snap_len: 1028 filter: 0xffffffff
> HCI Event: Connect Request (0x04) plen 10
bdaddr 00:06:56:01:21:61 class 0x020114 type ACL
< HCI Command: Accept Connection Request (0x01|0x0009) plen 7
bdaddr 00:06:56:01:21:61 role 0x01
Role: Slave
> HCI Event: Command Status (0x0f) plen 4
Accept Connection Request (0x01|0x0009) status 0x00 ncmd 1
> HCI Event: PIN Code Request (0x16) plen 6
bdaddr 00:06:56:01:21:61
> HCI Event: Connect Complete (0x03) plen 11
status 0x22 handle 41 bdaddr 00:06:56:01:21:61 type ACL encrypt 0x00
Error: LMP Error Transaction Collision
The "HCI Event: PIN Code Request" comes up when I submit my PIN,
then the Palm goes away for a few seconds and times out, and then
several seconds later, I get the "HCI Event: Connect Complete".
I'm using the default hcid.conf:
$Id: hcid.conf,v 1.7 2004/12/13 14:16:03 holtmann Exp $
cheers,
ian

make sure that hcid is running as root.

It *was* running as root... however, I'm beginning to think I'm slightly out
of my depth here and that I've not configured some other things that are
required (like rfcomm and pppd) .... I'll hit the HOWTOs again, and get
back to you!
cheers,
ian
