[Bluez-users] rattling noise with bluefritz 2.0

Hi,

with a bluefritz usb v2.0 I hear a rattling noise in the headset which appears 
about every 1.5 sec during a voip call (twinkle/ekiga/skype).

I noticed that the bfusb module is not loaded automatically and that a 
modprobe bfusb doesn't pull the firmware (bfubase.frm) located 
in /lib/firmware.

I'm a bit confused, is the firmware still needed? What could be the reason for 
this background noise?

Eh? You using a bluetooth headset and bluez-audio to make calls with 
Twinkle/Ekiga/Skype? Please post a guide how did you do this !

sorry for the long delay, I was a bit busy the last few days.
Apparently I'm not a bluez/alsa specialist, anyway here is what I have done:

To get a bluetooth headset work with Twinkle/Ekiga/Skype I enhanced
my .asoundrc at first.
In several documents I read that you can use a pcm of type bluetooth but that
never worked for me so I have to use type sco (see pcm.headset).
I had to reduce the volume of the headset mic to eliminate echo problems. Because
I found no working solution to control the mic volume with alsamixer, even softvol
doesn't help, I had to do it with a pcm of type plug (see pcm.headset-route-in).
To finetune the headset speaker volume I inserted the pcm-headset-route-out section
in my .asoundrc. 

I wasn't able to find a solution for dmixing/dsnooping the headset, is it possible?

After pairing the headset with the bt dongle I used the alsa device headset-route-out
for speaker and the device headset-route-in for microphone in twinkle and skype.

To get ekiga working with this alsa devices please follow

If you use a debian sid distribution you can find the needed patches in
/usr/share/doc/bluetooth-alsa/patches too.

Yeah, that's what I did, but even with the patch you reference below for
pwlib, ekiga still barfs trying to open the audio device.  More on that
below, but for now, following your procedure...

I tried your configuration but ekiga complains, on trying to open the
audio devices:

Ubuntu Gutsy in fact.

When I use instead:

pcm.headset {
   type bluetooth
   device 00:1A:45:1B:19:89
   profile "auto" #optional, supported profiles are: auto, hifi and voice
}

I can use arecord ... | aplay and I hear myself just fine, but ekiga
pukes out:

ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL headset

and I do eventually get a connection and can hear on the headset but the
UI ends up hanging -- doesn't paint.

On a second invocation I get connected to a phone I have dialed but the
connection dies quite quickly and ekiga says:

and I get the warning dialogs about not being able to play or record
from the soundcard.

This is included in the package bluetooth-alsa (debian sid), I don't know 
where to find libasound_module_pcm_sco.so in ubuntu gutsy.
