Using Java for Bluetooth programming is fine when doing it on a mobile phone such as the Nokia 6600. A good site for some code samples is http://www.benhui.net/bluetooth/index.html.

For server-side programming there is no defined standard for Java Bluetooth (the JSR-82 standard is tied to the J2ME platform). There are several projects that provide a Java stack, such as JBluez, JavaBluetooth and Harald. Neither of these was suitable for my purposes so I wrote the server-side code in C using Bluez.
