Hi All,
I am going through Bluez 4.101 qualification process and am
stuck with second part of test case SEC SEM BV 09. The test case needs
BlueZ to connect to Tester with Authentication requirement 0 (MITM not
required + No Bonding). Then have to trigger another L2CAP connection
with Authentication requirement 1 (MITM required + No Bonding).

We managed to get through the first part using l2test
l2test -n -P 1 -E
But the second part always does general bonding (Authentication
Requirement 5).
l2test -n -S -P 17 -J 2

Can somebody please advise on how to force blueZ to initiate connection
with authentication requirement 1 (MITM required + No Bonding)? From the
blueZ code, I noticed it follows lead from the remote device. But
couldn't find anything obvious when initiating connection.

Many Thanks,
Tony

IIRC you do this by setting HIGH or FIPS security level together with
PSM 1 (SDP). l2cap_get_auth_type() in net/bluetooth/l2cap_core.c seems
to indicate that is will give no bonding + MITM.

Thank you Johan.

For anyone who comes here looking for SEC SEM BV 09, following worked.
"l2test -n -P 1 -E" (unauthenticated link).
"l2test -n -P 1 -S" (authenticate link, make sure simple-agent is
running to manage MITM).

Hello,
Does bluez-4.101 (kernel 3.1.10) support LE MITM or any
authentication procedure? I am using gatttool to establish a LE
connection to another device with identical host and controller.
Although, I have set sec-level high on both side, I don't see any kind
of security triggered. The device connects to each other though.

Searching through the archives, I found posts which suggests pairing may
not be supported using random address type. But I have not modified
address type. So should be having public address type.

Many Thanks,
Tony

the combination of BlueZ 4.101 and Linux 3.1.10 is not something I would suggest for LE usage. There is pretty much no guarantee on what works and what not. The 3.1.10 kernel does not have the mgmt interface and BlueZ 4.x has limited LE security support.

We started supporting LE officially with BlueZ 5.x and pretty much kernel 3.9 or later is recommended at least.

Regards

Marcel

Are you sure it is really crashing in g_strcmp0, it is supposed to
handle NULL pointers and in fact it was introduced to fix this
problem. Can you try to provide a backtrace, perhaps something else
needs fixing.

Yes, that is what I also thought initially. For some reason the pointer
is not NULL! I made an NULL check for "ext->owner" before it goes to
'g_strcmp0' and it was not null. I guess it is address of some memory
not meant for it?

Following is the gdb backtrace.
