i'm sorry to have not been more clear on this. i am working with an old and unfortunately modified openembedded tree which is not handling dependencies correctly. thus, i'm trying to compile a list of packages to install and configure manually.

I don't get your request. The USB dongles always work and especially
when you use a distro. No matter which one.
