If I wanted to hook into the kernel, particularly the icmp functions, and alter the way that it works (read replies to icmp packets), where would I start looking? I originally thought the sys call table, but that doesnt seem correct to me, so i am open to whatever suggestions everyone has.

What exactly do you want to achieve? Are you positive you need to mess with
the kernel, user space won't do?
