The ADP1051, and ADP1055 have 6 PWM for individual monitoring. ADP1051
can monitor input/output voltages, input/output currents, and temperature.
ADP1055 is similar and can also monitor power.

The LTP8800-1A/-2/-4A is a 150A/135A/200A step-down μModule regulator that
provides microprocessor core voltage from 54V power distribution
architecture. It features remote configurability and telemetry monitoring
of power management parameters over PMBus.

This patch combines existing patch series adding support for adp1051/
adp1055 and ltp8800-XX. Below are references to the original patch series.

changes from v1 of original ADP1051/ADP1055 patch series:

adp1050:
  * Removed stray change in "includes" and stray blank line
  * The requested datasheet link to be added is in the documentation
  * Patterned format of pmbus_driver_info of new devices to the existing
    one

Bindings:
  * Removed abnormal newline

changes from v2 of original LTP8800 patch series:

adp1050:
  * Extended adp1050 to support ltp8800-xx devices instead of separate
    client driver
  * Used PMBUS_REGULATOR_ONE

FYI:

The 'micro' symbol displays as a blank space in 'menuconfig' or 'nconfig'.
(It shows up correctly in gconfig and xconfig.)

This problem is not unique to this driver entry.
See https://lore.kernel.org/all/20231006202942.GA865945@bhelgaas/ from 2023.

AFAIK no one is working on this issue.
Feel free to change the help text or leave it...

If it's part of the commercial / official name, I would leave it.
The bug is not in the help text anyway.

Can we use small x to make it more visible that it's _not_ the part of the
name, but a glob-like placeholder?

Please, split this patch to at least two:
1) Introduce chip_info;
2) add new devices.

Please refrain from using device name wildcards, There is no guarantee that
all chips in the name range of ADP105[0-9] will have the same functionality.
Either name the chips, or say something like "The supported chips are ...".

As mentioned in my other reply, I'd rather not have a placeholder in the first

Look into other drivers. That is how it is implemented there,
and not really the point. One has to know about an alternative to use it.

They are, but they must be 0/NULL. PTR_IF() would be an alternative.
It is a bit odd to use it for a non-pointer, but it is type-agnostic,
so using it should be ok to avoid the #ifdefs. We should maybe adopt
that mechanism for other PMBus drivers.

That would really be "Use driver data to point to chip info".

I don't really care much about separating those two (after all, they are
related), but adding regulator support to the driver is a major change
and should be a separate patch. On top of that, it isn't even mentioned
in the patch description.

I see, thanks for elaboration on all of this.

I agree on the title, what I meant is the rough description of what
should be done in the change.

Indeed, that's why I mentioned "at least" in the reply.

So that's a v2? Or v3? Then should be marked correctly. Please start
using b4. I already asked analog.com for this in few cases. Feel free
not to use b4 if you send correct patches, but this is not the case here.

A nit, subject: drop second/last, redundant "bindings for". The
"dt-bindings" prefix is already stating that these are bindings.

This is a combination of two patch series. I'd personally hesitant to carry
Acks along in such situations.

In general I agree, but this is a combination of two patch series, as mentioned
in the summary. I am not sure how to use versioning in such situations. Is it
v2 of one series or v3 of the other ?

I would say the highest and keep the b4 changeset. This allows to use b4
diff easily. Choice done here - v1, no usage of b4 - breaks everything,
look:

Ah, I didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing it out. Cedric, in the
future please mention things like this if you drop an ack.

I mean, I don't disagree with Guenter that in this case he would
hesitate to carry the ack as I probably would drop it too.
The difference compared to what happened here is that I would mention
/why/ I dropped it.
If you're going to carry it while merging two series and resetting the
patch number, it's good to reference where you got the ack from to
avoid confusing people, particularly given the patch was modified
compared to what got acked.
