E2fsprogs 1.40 release imminent!

... contains what I hope to be the e2fsprogs 1.40 release.  If folks
could test it and let me know if they find any embarassing bugs, I would
greatly appreciate it.  It can also be found at:

ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/tytso/e2fsprogs/e2fsprogs-1.40-rc1.tar.gz

Over the next few days, I'll be working on converting e2fsprogs SCM from
hg to git.  Assuming no one finds any problems, I'll be releasing
e2fsprogs 1.40 by the end of the week.

The release at the URL above seems to solve the issues I've been
seeing on ARM (in particular, it seems to fix the strict aliasing
issue that was causing dumpe2fs to segfault.)

What about undo I/O manager ? 


This I/O manager saves the contents of the location being overwritten
to a tdb database. This helps in undoing the changes done to the
file system.

The call sequence involve

set_undo_io_backing_manager(unix_io_manager);
set_undo_io_backup_file("/tmp/test.tdb");
retval = ext2fs_open2(dev_name, 0, flags,
		superblock, block_size, undo_io_manager,
		&current_fs);

The patch is on top of e2fsprogs-upstream mercurial repo

That and many other queued patches will be merged after 1.40 releases.
I didn't want to include anything that would be high risk or wouldn't
be useful as standalone.  The undo manager by itself isn't going to be
useful until it's integrated into other e2fsprogs programs, and I
didn't want to put off the 1.40 release.  So for the past couple of
weeks I've only been merging bug fixes so we could do a stable release.

There are a bunch of patches applied in the gentoo package that might be worth 
looking at:
http://dev.gentoo.org/~hanno/e2fsprogs/

All of them still seem to apply to the current mercurial source. I'm not 
really familiar with them, just noted that there are a lot of patches and 
nobody seemed to care sending upstream in the past.

Thanks, none of these are critical.  I'll go through them and apply
them after the 1.40 release.

e2fsprogs-1.39-util-strptime.patch was fixed in another way in my
sources.
