If anyone has code to set up a display by writing directly to the VGA hardware, i would desperately like to see it. All the information i found on programming the VGA regs would take me quite a little time to elaborate. And (this would rather belong on the user mailing list, i guess) perhaps i overlooked something, but i haven't found any explanation of how to manipulate vesafb's colour map in 8bpp modes.
