sisfb troubles with current linus

when jumping to the console with latest linus 2.6.10-rc1-bk23,
i now see the hole dmesg, previsouly i would only see a
cursor, but i have no way back to x.
i'm using xfree86 version 4.3.0.dfsg.1-8 from debian sarge.
Xfree86.0.log says then:
(II) SIS(0): Restoring by setting old mode 0x38
