I tried to use kernel 2.6.7 but there are almost no framebuffer drivers.
Why is this, can't the drivers from 2.4.x easily be ported to 2.7.x?
What are the obstacles?
Is there any documentation for writing framebuffer drivers?
Who is working on the radeonfb driver?

Uh? There are quite a lot of them...

The API changed, but it isn't too hard to port old-style drivers to the
new API. If this hasn't happened yet, it's just because nobody yet
really missed that particular driver. However, there are a lot of
drivers available...

I miss radeonfb :-(
Is anywhere a description of the API changes or what has to be done port
a driver?

radeonfb also exists in 2.6. I know for sure since I wrote a small part
of it :)
You must say y to "Support for frame buffer devices", under "Graphics
support" to see supported framebuffer drivers.

Yes, sorry. I've missed it in the standard Debian kernel 2.6.7 package
and didn't look close enough when I checked the source. I wrongly
assumed Debian is correct :-(
