Hi, Following our recent discussion about my DRM/i830 problems with XFree on my Dell Optiplex GX260 (see http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=111020328808689&w=2), here comes the intelfb part of my bug report. Booting with intelfb works great: As long as I don't start the X server, I can work and switch between the framebuffer text consoles. If I start the X server (XFree 4.3.0 from Debian testing before, Xorg 6.8.2 now), I can't switch back to fb text consoles: First time I chvt [123456], it switches to a **non-FB** text console for about 1 second, and then to a black screen (sometimes, a colored column appear when I try to type something on my keyboard). During this 1 second, there are some messages written wherever in the text console. They look like the begining of dmesg. They are mis-aligned, probably because the resolution of the text console is different from the FB text console. Switching back to the X server works. Switching back to a FB text console leads to a dirty screen with white and black columns on the left, and everything black on the right. dmesg show this when switching from X to a FB text console for the first time: intelfb: ring buffer : space: 8488 wanted 65472 intelfb: lockup - turning off hardware acceleration Note that disabling DRI in Xorg doesn't change anything. dmesg, lspci et config are attached. This is with 2.6.11. But I don't remember having seen intelfb works since it was introduced in vanilla. 2.6.12-rc1 and 2.6.12-rc1-mm1 don't change anything, except maybe the dirtiness of the FB screen.
