I just upgraded my Netwinder from 2.4.27 to 2.6.15 and the framebuffer
no longer works. Console works but when I start X.org I first get a
corrupted screen and a little bit later the whole machine hangs.
There's no panic or any information on the serial console.
<<<

This problem appears only on Cyber2010 chips (Netwinders with Cyber2000
work OK)

The crash issue on 2010 can be solved by disabling burst mode on the
Cyberpro 2010 (graphic register 0x30, EXT_BUS_CTL_PCIBURST_WRITE=0). It
is enabled in the kernel driver by default now.

However, I can see in the cyber2000fb.c file that the 2010 is also used
on Shark architecture.

Martin, Russell,
Can you verify if the current 2.6.1x kernel + X 6.9 works OK on SHARK
machine??? I do not have any of them here to test...

Basically we need to establish, if this fix is needed just for
Netwinders with CyberPro 2010 (here tested on machine with 1M VRAM in
32-bit mode, but Martin seems to have problem on 2M VRAM Netwinder?) or
all machines with CyberPro 2010.

Thanks, Woody

Exactly the same code exists in the 2.4.21-rmk kernel (just diff'd the
two drivers), so I don't understand why hasn't the problem been reported
against 2.4 kernels.

I don't have Shark hardware either.

Yes, but the problem may be caused by faster/slower/smarter... driving
of PCI bus e.t.c... It just happens to trigger now the right noise level...

Well, maybe Martin or Wookey can find one...

I have no Shark, but I can confirm that 2.4 works on my Netwinder
while 2.6 doesn't.

And under 2.6, does clearing this burst bit solve your problem?

I don't have access to my machine at the moment, but Ralph reproduced
it on his.

Yes, I have confirmed this behaviour. Clearing the burst flag makes the
2010 work for me. I tried all other sorts of changes, like going back
to the "OLD_PLL" code and similar, but none had any effect, except for
the burst flag.

RMK, its worth noting that "2.4" in the previous conversation was
referring to 2.4.19-rmk7, so that may explain why it was working there.

So is it a 2010 bug? Seems unlikely...

PS. I am still seeing X crash after a few hours running x11perf, now
with both 2.4 and 2.6 framebuffers. Its easily reproduced, but without
any debugging symbols in the X binary, I'm not sure how useful a gdb
backtrace would be...

My Netwinder gateway (Cyber 2000) running 2.6.11 and old Debian
4.3.0.dfsg.1-14sarge1 XFree is uptime'd for months...
With CPU usage sometimes very heavy....

Did not try the same on new X7.0.

OTOH, x11perf may be more demanding then plain usage...
