* [PATCH] atyfb: mark DMI system id table as __initconst
From: Mathias Krause @ 2015-01-04 14:04 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-fbdev
We can mark the DMI system id table as __initconst by using a helper
variable that'll tell us if we need to unregister the reboot notifier in
atyfb_exit() instead of matching the DMI system id again.
This frees up ~680 bytes of runtime memory, the DMI table occupies.

of_platform_device_create is only defined when CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS is set,
which is normally always the case when CONFIG_OF is defined, except on Sparc,
so explicitly check for CONFIG_OF_ADDRESS rather then for CONFIG_OF.

I have done the spi probing stuff, now only stuck with changing this to SPI calls,
static int ssd1307fb_write_array(struct i2c_client *client,
struct ssd1307fb_array *array, u32 len)
{
int ret;
len += sizeof(struct ssd1307fb_array);
ret = i2c_master_send(client, (u8 *)array, len);
if (ret != len) {
dev_err(&client->dev, "Couldn't send I2C command.\n");
return ret;
}
return 0;
}
Any help on this would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Sagar

Doesn't this depend on the compiler optimizing the
of_platform_device_create call away? Isn't that rather dangerous assumption?

Yes it does.

The kernel relies on being build with optimization enabled in various places,
this specific construction was suggested during review (by Grant Likely IIRC)
I initially had an #ifdef here. Note that this construction is used in various
places throughout the kernel and it seems to be used more and more often.

Ok. Well, I can't say I'm very happy about that, but if that's the
common accepted way, I'm fine. I'll queue this for fbdev fixes.

I'm not sure what help you are expecting.
This is a simple function that takes an array and sends it over I2C.
It's probably even easier with SPI. Have you considered reading
include/spi/spi.h?

* [PATCH] fbdev: savage: remove unused variable

vga_in8() was storing the return value in tmp, but that return value
was never used again. so it should be safe to remove those variables.
Signed-off-by: Sudip Mukherjee <sudip@vectorindia.org>

just one doubt:
vga_in8() is calling savage_in8() which is a readb().
so in effect we are reading one byte from
(par->mmio.vbase + 0x8000 + 0x3da) and then discarding that value.
so if we are discarding that value then why we are reading it?

This patch set includes regulator and backlight driver for SKY81452.
Also it includes documents for device tree and module.
sky81452-regulator was already applied. So this series doesn't
include it.
v10:
Removed trivial get_brightness implementations for sky81452-backlight
v9:
Removed the change to remove MODULE_VERSION() for sky81452-regulator
v8:
Renamed property names for backlight with vendor prefix
Modified gpio-enable property to generic property for GPIO
Made up the example for backlight DT
Changed the DT parsing of regulator using regulator_node and of_match
v7:
Modified licensing text to GPLv2
Splitted Kconfig renaming from DT patch
v6:
Added new line character at the end of line of dev_err()
v5:
Changed DT for regulator : 'lout' node should be defined under 'regulator'
Removed compatible string from sky81452-regulator driver
Modified sky81452-regulator to return EINVAL when of_node is NULL
Move sky81452-backlight.h to include/linux/platform_data
v4:
Removed MODULE_VERSION()
Modified license to GPLv2
Removed calling to backlight_device_unregister() in sky81452-backlight
v3:
Cleaned-up DBG messages
Cleaned-up DT
Fixed the backlight name from 'sky81452-bl' to 'sky81452-backlight'
