Unfortunately Single UNIX Specification states that "offset"
(telldir(3)'s result) is only invalidated by calls to rewinddir(3).

It is true that for certain (heh, almost _all_ non-s5fs-descending) file
systems it is hard to maintain directory offsets stable in the face on
concurrent directory modifications, but that's what current standards
require and what user level software relies upon.
