Hi,
NILFS (a New Implementation of a Log-structured Filesystem) Version 2 have
been available at the project website
http://www.nilfs.org/
If you are interested, please visit to our website.
NILFS version 2 is equipped with the Garbage Collector that can keep
numerous snapshots of NILFS filesystem. You can preserve some
consistent states (checkpoints) of NILFS filesystem as snapshots
``after'' the states are established. For example, when you have
removed some files accidentally, you can get the snapshot that
represent the past state which holds the vanished files. Checkpoints
are collected by the garbage collector unless they are marked as
``snapshot''.
We welcome any comments or contributions.

Could you please give some information on the use cases
for this file system. Is it another flash file system
or optimized for block devices? What do you think are
the primary use cases? Do you see it as a general purpose
file system like ext3 or targetted at some specific niche?
Is it supposed to be production ready eventually or
more intended for research? Does it avoid the long mount
time problem the other Linux log file system have?
Thanks,
-Andi

Which ones have a mount time problem? Only JFFS{2} or were there others
as well?

We want another general purpose file system that
supports a continuous snapshotting.
There are many function for recovering error on filesyste,
journaling, softupdate or RAID in hardware layer.
However, human errors are not covered such function,
a mistyped `rm * ~' is executed exactly and speedy.
A continuous snapshotting is a solution that avoid such disaster.
We believe that LFS is suitable for continuous snapshotting.
NILFS uses so some resources include disk space and CPU cycle for
human.
We will hold a BOF session in Linux Symposium Ottawa June, 2007,
titled "Filesystem support for continuous snapshotting". Please join
to discuss you're interested in snapshotting.
Thank you.

I'd like to join, however I won't be in Ottawa. Any chance you'd make
it to linuxconf.eu?
