The AD7173 family offer a complete integrated Sigma-Delta ADC solution
which can be used in high precision, low noise single channel applications
or higher speed multiplexed applications. The Sigma-Delta ADC is intended
primarily for measurement of signals close to DC but also delivers
outstanding performance with input bandwidths out to ~10kHz.

V2 -> V3

 - change Kconfig GPIO_REGMAP and REGMAP_SPI to be conditioned by GPIOLIB
 - cast chip info to (kernel_ulong_t) to suppress warnings
 - adjust copyright year to reflect the out-of-tree history
 - remove unused sysfs and trigger header files
 - clean up defined macros by using FIELD_PREP( ) inline
 - use DECLARE_BITMAP( ) for defiining cfg_slots_status
 - use clear/set _bit instead of assign_bit
 - rename state field regmap to reg_gpiocon_regmap to better represent usage
 - replace container_of( ) usages to ad_sigma_delta_to_ad7173( )
 - improve readability of sampling frequency conversion in write_raw( )
				specifying conversion from Micro to Milli
 - use iio_device_claim_direct_mode( ) correctly in write_raw( )
 - flip logic in write_raw( ) to reduce line length
 - pass only state struct to gpio_init function
 - remove else branch at end of probe
 - remove comma after list terminator for of_match and id_table arrays
 - clarify write_raw( ) realbits 32 bit size check in a comment
 - change parsed fw property 'adi,bipolar' to 'bipolar' to matched referenced adc.yaml
 - use reg_set_base for gpio regmap xlate

Seems the family is a bit wider than covered here as there is at least
an ad7172-4 device. It might be nice to support that if not too hard.

I'd like to see supplies listed here as well.

How can this go to 31? Do we have devices with 32 input lines?

Hi Dumitru,

Getting close, but a few more comments on things I noticed this time
around.

Thanks,

Jonathan

Needed? It's pretty rare that it is these days as the IIO core handles
most attrs.

Does this get 'undone' anywhere? I'd imagine there is power cost to setting these
bits that we want to stop in remove.
Perhaps a devm_add_action_or_reset() needed here.

It's fairly usual for it to be safe to grab a single conversion when the
buffered mode might be enabled. Do you need an iio_device_claim_direct_mode()
here?

This looks wrong.
Firstly iio_device_claim_direct_mode() can fail so you always have
to check the return value. If it does fail and you then call
iio_release_direct_mode() it is unbalanced release of a mutex.

Secondly update_scan_mode is only called as part of buffer setup
and there should be no races around that (and the mutex this
tries to grab is already held.
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/source/drivers/iio/industrialio-buffer.c#L1265
)

If you are protecting something device specific (rather than
the mode) then a device specific lock should be taken.

bipolar doesn't normally == differential.
You can have unipolar differential (just that you can't get a negative answer)
Perhaps just a terminology thing?

This works for the cases of DT and ACPI but not for anyone just
using the spi_device_id table.
There is spi_device_get_match_data() to cover all options.

I'd avoid mixing and matching across different access methods for
firmware type info. Just embed the name in the st->info structure.

ad_sigma_delta_single_conversion() calls iio_device_claim_direct_mode()

The use of a lock was inspired from ad7124, but from looking at it the only use it has
was to protect concurrent access of the device setup from write_raw (that now uses ...direct_mode())

I think it's best to drop this lock.

This device supports only differential channels. Here, the differential flag is used to show
if bipolar coding should be used.

I could not find the spi_device_get_match_data() function in the repo.
It appears however as a suggestion from Andy Shevchenko in a thread:
https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-kernel@vger.kernel.org/msg2382960.html
 Is this it?

I'm confused - you are setting differential in the iio_chan_spec with this.
That affects the sysfs naming and a bunch of other stuff - not merely
the bipolar nature of the channel.

ah. I got the name wrong.
spi_get_device_match_data()
