A little advice please from a Suse user which I can pass on
to a raw recruit. He has I think Suse 8.4 or close to it. He
has found ax25-apps / tools etc on disc 4 but cannot find
libax25. He tried libax25-0.0.9.tar.gz install but got loads
of errors. He then phoned me. Can anyone advise of the
existence of libax25 on Suse-8.? and on which diisc.
If_not_exist , which version should he use please so that he
can download it. I don't know the kernel version.
- Regards Colin

there is no SuSE 8.4... only 6.4 (no longer updated by SuSE), 7.0-7.3 and 8.0.

Quite few infos...
Since he has ax25-apps/tools, I suppose he is using a "professional" version.
The "personal" version does not have any ham radio packages.
The dependencies autoselect libax25 from within YaST(2). He should install via
YaST (up to 7.3) or YaST2 (since 7.<something>), it will prompt for the
correct CDs. libax25 is there. Or check for it in INDEX.gz on any CD.

Hi everyone,
I have installed RedHat 7.3 and wanted to set it up for packet.
I have recompiled the kernel to include AX25 / ROSE etc as well as kernel
support for the baycom and soundcard modems. It all still boots up OK.
I have two problems.
First the kernel now doesn't seem to be able to find some of the libraries
it needs (eg for the ext3 filesystem) - I compiled the new kernel using the
following commands
make menuconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
cp /usr/src/.../boot/bzImage /boot
make modules
make modules_install
do I have to specify a different initrd in grub as I do with the kernel?
I have attached a zip file containing dmesg, messages and .config (kernel)
for anyone who wants to assist me.
Secondly, I have had a look though the AX25 howto at
http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/AX25-HOWTO/index.html and had a look
though all my install disks for the AX25 files. I have 3 install disks, 2
program source disks and a kernel source disk. The AX25 files is on none of
them.
I got the ax25 ackages from sourceforge. The libs tar.gz file uncompressed,
compiled and installed OK. I uncompressed the tools package but could not
get it to compile. A screendump s in the attached zip in a file called
errors.
Any help with these problems would be appreciated.
Michael
