Hi Folks

I came across the SDR-14 software defined receiver whilst trawling the 
web. It looks very interesting for a number of uses. The supported 
software is Windows based but if they release the specs then everything 
should be alright. I am happy to see that they are using USB as the PC 
to radio connection mechanism.

According to the blurb:

The SDR-14 is a 14Bit Software defined radio receiver. It offers a broad 
range of demodulation and spectrum analyzer functions. The hardware 
directly samples the whole 0-30 MHz band using a sampling rate of 
66.666 MHz. This sampling rate allows the SDR-14 to capture the whole 
0-30 MHz band or any nyquist band up to 250 MHz with little degradation 
in performance. The digital data is processed into I and Q format using 
a direct digital converter (DDC) . The I and Q data is then sent to the 
PC for processing using a high speed USB interface. The SDR-14 also 
supports high resolution spectral captures using it's 512Kx16 deep 
memory.

All of the demod and spectral functions are done on the PC side. 
Supported formats at this time include USB, LSB, AM, FM and CW.

Some of the possible uses of the SDR-14 hardware include:

Digital demodulation of signals in the 0-250 MHz bands.
High quality spectral captures as wide as 30 MHz and resolution 
bandwidths as low as 0.02 Hz
Ionospheric and band condition monitoring.
Power, noise figure and antenna noise measurements.
Radio astronomy observations and coherent signal detection in noise.
Recording a 100KHz segment of any band (0-250 MHz) to hard drive in real 
time.
Panoramic adapter for use with communication receivers like the AOR5000 
and IC-R8500.

RFSpace is an enterprise of Pieter Ibelings N4IP, who's very active in 
amateur radio satellite work. Pieter is very hip technically about RF 
hardware. (I had the honor of having an audio recording of me working 
Pieter on AO-40's first day of operation on the ARRL website.) Moe 
Wheatley, AE4JY--also a satellite op--is responsible for the 
Windows-based DSP software.

The RFSpace website says they have a Linux driver for the SDR-14 
already, so it looks like they're quite sensitive to the needs of The 
Penguin. :-)
