Greetings..
We are having trouble trying to configure PCI SCC Card. The chip used is a
SUN 1889 (Dual Port card). Currently we use a script..
#!/bin/sh
# ax25 startup scripts
echo "Attach AX.25 devices to relevant ports"
#
setserial /dev/ttyS2 uart 16750 port 0xe800 baud_base 19200
setserial /dev/ttyS3 uart 16750 port 0xec00 baud_base 76800
#
/sbin/modprobe mkiss
/sbin/modprobe netrom
/sbin/modprobe ax25
#
/usr/sbin/kissnetd /dev/ptyqa /dev/ptyqb &
sleep 2
echo "Attach AX.25 loopback ports"
/usr/sbin/kissattach /dev/ttyqa loop0 10.1.1.1
/usr/sbin/kissattach /dev/ttyqb loop1 10.1.1.2
/usr/sbin/kissattach /dev/ttyS2 2 44.136.176.220
/usr/sbin/kissattach /dev/ttyS3 3 44.136.177.220
#
/sbin/ifconfig ttyS2 44.136.176.220 netmask 255.255.255.0 \
broadcast 44.136.176.255 arp hw ax25 vk5tty-15 up
/sbin/ifconfig ttyS3 44.136.177.220 netmask 255.255.255.0 \
broadcast 44.136.176.255 arp hw ax25 vk5tty-13 up
We tried looking at psicscc program, however, there is NO support for SUN 1889
chip. Is there an alternative to the way we are doing it or using pciscc.
We had just moved away from ISA DRSI cards using the Z8530drv, as the cards
were damaged.
The problem we get is cannot attach kiss to the devices..
Any help would be much appreciated

Hi Stef
Bad luck on the choice of cards - what you have there is NOT an SCC card
and will never operate in the same manner as the DRSI card you used to
use.
What you have is a simple dual UART card which can be treated the same way
as the normal serial ports on the motherboard - no syncronous data, no
HDLC, no direct modem connection for AX25 :-((
Best advice would be to exchange the card for a standard serial multi-port
card that is supported by the Linux kernel as I doubt you will find a
'commercial' SCC card apart from the Baycom team (that I know of anyway!)

Hello all,
Is there any good, reasonably modern Linux Digipeater software out
there? I've noticed that axdigi is still dated 1997 and won't compile
on any reasonably modern system, and the old binary from 1997 won't run
with any reasonably modern kernel.
Someone suggested that I try ax25digi, but ax25digi is not on the
linux-hams site, and even google only brings up 6 websites that mention
it - and even then only complaints about it - nothing about where to get it.
I found a couple forums where someone else was asking, very clearly, if
there was an AX.25-level digipeater program out there, and all the
replies were about APRS digipeating, not what the original poster really
asked about. (APRS forwarding really isn't digipeating anyway - more
like bridging or routing - different OSI layer).
So, after all that - is there a good program out there that does simple,
single-port, layer 2, AX.25 digipeating and works with kernel 2.6?
Thanks in advance,
Dave

javAPRSDigi, a component of javAPRSSrvr, provides full APRS digipeater
capabilities and works with the Linux ax25 kernel support. It is not,
however, a carte-blanc digipeater; only APRS. You can obtain it for
free by contacting me directly at pete@ae5pl.net

I'm not aware of any other non-APRS digi software, but you can get
ax25digi at:
ftp://ftp.tapr.org/software_lib/Linux/ax25/ax25digi.tgz

Another choice is digi_ned. It's extremely flexible, and comes
with a number of sample configuration files. One of them,
lightly edited, will cause it to act as a very straightforward
single-port generic AX.25 digipeater.

Try without the 25, axdigi.tgz downloaded for me:-)
I also could noit get it to compile, and get an error from the binary, and
would love to have the this app working. Just no time to try myself.

Sorry about the broken URL, thanks Willie.
The binary appears to have been built with libc4 (this thing really is
old!). I suspect that it is written for an older version of gcc, as
well. The oldest one I have is 2.95 and that bombs, as do 3.2 and 3.3.
I'm not a C programmer, so can't reallly help there.
The only reason it still exists in the TAPR repository is that I haven't
taken the time to clean out the obsolete stuff. I probably will, once
we get the new tapr.org server fully online.
I don't know if Craig VK2XLZ (the author) still frequents this list, but
if so maybe he could comment.

Just a quick and dirty hack... Maybe this works, at least it compiles
for me now...

Perhaps until Craig declares it obsolete this should be hosted
*somewhere* just to preserve access to the code. Digipeating is
sometimes not recommended by some, but it would be nice if this code
could be updated if for no other reason than to have the Linux AX.25
capability meet the spec.
I've been playing with AX.25 on another box again and didn't realize
digipeating was lacking until this thread. This prompted me to grab
the file and save Tomi's patch.

FWIW, there is an axdigi-0.02.tar.gz at the old ax25 tools home
at http://he.fi/. The patch I sent, was against this. I have absolutely
no idea if this is the latest version or not...

That is sightly newer than the version I found at the TAPR site.
Jonathan Naylor patched it previously to compile on 2.1 kernels (the
original was compiled on kernel 1.1.95 with GCC 2.6.2 and libc 4.6.27,
per the README file.)
I'll play around with it (and the new patch) a bit and if it looks
useful, I'll upload a new *unofficial* version to the tapr site.

The binary in that package appears to run on my system running a 2.4.26
kernel (I had to install libc5 first). I don't have any way to see if
it actually is functional, however.

Uh,
But if you read my original post, you'll see that I had already tried
axdigi, and asked if there was anything else. Kinda odd pointing back
to the same software then...
I guess the upshot of all this is that what people call "ax25digi" is
not actually a separate piece of software from "axdigi", but it is
actually the same thing, just poorly remembered.

I applied Tomi's patch and compiled on a 2.6.9 system (glibc/libc6
2.3.2). This binary also runs on my 2.4.26 system. I didn't have an
opportunity to try digipeating with it, however. This revised version
(renumbered to avoid confusion) can be downloaded from:
