Hello, Tomi and the list !

If I start gMFSK from KDE, it is working - except I can not type from
keyboard in the transmit window. I can copy and paste text in it, but
keyboard is dead.
From GNOME, all is OK.
I suppose you'll be interested about that.

Keep up a good work ! gMFSK is a very usefull piece of software.
Kindly,
Alek

I have the source RPM installed and running now, on a Mdk 8.1 distro,
KDE desktop, and it appears to be working very nicely.

Initially, gMSFK complained about read errors from the sound device. I
tried re-assigning DMA channels from the BIOS, and updating the OSS
module accordingly, but it went from read errors to write errors to a full
system freeze :-(

The fix was to ditch OSS for the ALSA drivers, and all is well now. I am
using a Toshiba laptop and the Yamaha sound system has always been a
bit tricky to get going.

Anyway, the KDE sound server does a pretty good job of sharing the
sound system between apps, I am going to try to record a sound bite of
transmitted audio into a file, and re-play it, to see what the transmitted
spectrum looks like. I am really intrigued by the MFSK, which sounds like
a mix between a flute and bag-pipes on fast-forward.

A question: I would like to extract PTT from a USB serial adapter, but the
device file for it doesn't show up in the pick list of gMFSK. Can I safely
add a symlink to the USB device file and call it, say /dev/ttyS99?

Wilbert, ZL2BSJ

Ok, thanks for the report. It is indeed interesting and bit strange too.
I'll need to try and see if I can reproduce it here.

Thanks.

I could not reproduce this with KDE but I found another possible cause for
it. Can you check if you have NumLock (or CapsLock or ScrollLock) on when
this happens.

It seems that shortly before releasing 0.4 I added a bug that makes the TX
window ignore keyboard input when any modifiers are on. In fact you can't
even type in CAPITAL letters...

Oh well, I will release 0.4.1 soon with this and another small bug fixed.

You can type whatever filename you want in the PTT text entry box. It
doesn't need to be from the list.

I don't have any USB serial converters here but I suppose you could just
type /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/usb/ttyUSB or whatever there. If the USB serial
driver implements the necessary ioctls it should work.

Yes, that's right indeed ! By accident, NumLock in GNOME was off, for I rare
use it. KDE is my default, and NumLock is always set on in it.

I'm glad if I help to exterminate this bug, even with such confusing report :)

Kindly,
Alek
