Let's say that I don't even want hotplug event, but at least a mecanism to tell to the kernel that it should rescan the IDE devices, or IDE bus ? But I guess this is a question for another mailing list (like linux-kernel) not for linux-hotplug. In the past I've used hdparm -U / -R, but it does not work anymore for kernel 2.6.x.
