It is probably garbage in the partition table that looks like a
partition entry to the kernel.

I have an even worse stick. It has no partition at all (sda is mountable
like in case of usb floppy), but the kernel detects sda1-sda4 as well
because of some data on the stick that to the kernel looks like valid
partition entry.
