hello,

(i still don't know how to subscribe to this list so please mail back
directly. thanks!).

i wrote a (bash) script which is being executed as soon as i plug in my
external usb harddisk. the problem is that this script is executed AGAIN
when i unplug the harddisk. how may i prevent that from happening?

another question i do have is one i couldn't answer with manuals i've
read: obviously i don't need to actually mount a device to cp files on
it with udev anymore - first i don't see how this is possible and second
i'm not sure how i should umount the usb device - simply unplug it? is
this safe?

thanks for any help, hint, links and suggestions.

regards
blinkeye

Check for the ACTION in the environment.

udev has nothing to do with storage access, it just creates the device
node for you. How would you access the filesystem without mounting it?!

No, it isn't safe. But you may mount the volume with the "sync" option
and it may not happen something bad if you just remove the device.
