Update:

I used the defined interface wp1ads1 in the rp-pppoe setup and had an
autentication error from my ISP which means that settings are working.
However when I corrected the password I then had the following log messages:
(date), local host pppd[21529]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
(date), local host pppd[21529]: using interface ppp0
(date), local host pppd[21529]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/4
(date), local host pppoe[21530]: PPP session is 42929
(date), local host pppoe[21530]: Session 42929 terminated -- received OADT
from peer.

I notice in the log when I do a wanrouter start:
(date) localhost kernel: wanpipe1: configuring wp1adsl as Ethernet
(date) localhost kernel: wait_for_sysfs[11438]: either wait_for_sysfs (udev
039) needs an update to handle the device '/class/net/wp1adsl' properly (no
device symlink) or the sysfs-support of your device's driver needs to be
fixed...

Hi James,

I have sorted out most of the problems, and have done a wanrouter start that
looked to be successful.

However I run into problems when I do an adsl-start. The log files are as
follows:
(date), local host pppd[21529]: pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid 0
(date), local host pppd[21529]: using interface ppp0
(date), local host pppd[21529]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/4
(date), local host pppoe[21530]: ioctl(STOCGIFHWADDR): Session 0: No such
device

The command adsl-status says Link is down -- could not find interface
corresponding to pid 27554.

I followed the instructions closely, the rp-pppoe adsl-setup script
configuration instructions say to use the WANPIPE network interface as the
Ethernet interface connected to a modem. I don't see this interface
anywhere, could this be the problem?

Thanks,
Rob

James,

I am new to Linux. Is there anything like an uninstall I need to do to the
old wanpipe installation before I install the beta, or can I simply
overwrite the existing installation?

Rob

Hello,

This warning that you get is correct. If you source name in the
Makefile is one thing and the actual image is something else, we will
warn you and give you the choice to build for the current image or the
source name. If you want to use it on this system, then you should
choose Yes.

As for the i686, this is simply stating that you have a PIII or higher.
It has nothing to do with 32 or 64bit.

Please move to the beta version of the software as this will solve the
issue with the regparm setting (this is an experimental setting in the
kernel config). My apologies, I thought I had specified the beta version.

Cheers,

James

That message it harmless and will not be printed with a later version of
udev. You may update the package for your system if you want to get rid
of that.

Kay
