how to force system to mount USB device after it is inserted?

I want my system to mount a usb device through my own script if my system does not mount it automatically after USB is inserted.

Where should I start to look (that means my script will be called to check if USB is mounted or not when USB device is attached? 

Any help will be appreciated!

You may find the latest version of the debian usbmount package
helpful.

http://packages.debian.org/sid/usbmount

Note that vfat filesystems will be corrupted unless
they are manually unmounted.
