Add the following to /etc/udev/udev.rules:

BUS="usb", KERNEL="lp[0-9]*", NAME="printers/%n", SYMLINK="usb/lp%n"

Is that all you're looking for or are you suggesting this get added to the
udev.rules that is included in the upstream and distro-maintained (debian,
fedora, etc) package?
