I have just changed /etc/sysconfig/hwclock to that the hardware clock is kept
in UTC. Previously it was CET, as I still dual boot into Windows98
sometimes.
The next boot started correctly and all expected devices were created, apart
from the ide cd drive which does not appear as cdrom. The scsi cdrw appears
correctly.
Perhaps the udev sleep function got confused by changes to the clock? A one
hour time change might explain wait 3599 seconds?
