Hello.
When plugging a DV movie camera, information about it appears in /sys, e.g.
$ ls -1F /sys/class/ieee1394_node/0800460102943773/device
0800460102943773-0/
bus_options
capabilities
detach_state
guid
guid_vendor_id
guid_vendor_oui
nodeid
tlabels_allocations
tlabels_free
tlabels_mask
vendor_id
vendor_name_kv
vendor_oui
But no /dev/raw1394, which is used by "dvgrab" to capture from the camera.
[There aren't any rules in "/etc/udev/rules.d" about ieee1394.]
I have udev 0.24 installed.
Thanks.
Gilles

There is no dev file there, so udev is not aware that it needs to create
a device node for this device.

That is because no one has converted the ieee1394 subsystem to export
"dev" files showing the major:minor numbers used by the devices.
Care to send a kernel patch to do so?
thanks,
greg k-h

Here is the answer/question I got from Ben Collins, in my trying to transfer
the burden over to him :-)

I don't mind at all.
