hi there, i noticed there is no users mailing list, so please excuse me posting to the devel list; but there is no alternative. what i wish to set up is a system whereby i have a symlink in /dev which points to my preferred mouse device. when my usb mouse is plugged in, i would like it pointed to it... but when unplugged, it should point to the machine's built in touchpad. i have (almost successfully) set up a udev rule which creates a symlink called /dev/usbmouse which will always point to the usbmouse when it is plugged in (the problem with /dev/input/mouseX is that X increments every time it is unplugged and reconnected). i was referred here from the debian-users list as the general concensus was that udev could not have the link pointed to the touchpad when the usbmouse was not plugged in, and that hotplug could probably help me there. any help is appreciated. cheers, Sam -- Free High School Science Texts http://www.nongnu.org/fhsst/ Sam's Homepages http://fommil.homeunix.org/~samuel/ http://www.ma.hw.ac.uk/~samuel/
