Unfortunately udev doesn't create ttyACMx devices though they are listed
in /sys/class/tty/. The udev developers seemed to have forgotten this devices.

Is anybody willing to add this missing functionality to udev?
I'm using udev 057.

Best Regards,
Gerold

No response, very sad...
Can at least anybody confirm that NO ttyACM device files are created though
CDC_ACM devices are present? Is there anybody else with a CDC_ACM device?

I don't know if that device will work - never tried that. But
udev works perfectly with my mobile phone:

  [kay@pim ~]$ ls -la /dev/ttyACM0
  crw-rw----  1 root root 166, 0 May  9 21:57 /dev/ttyACM0

  [kay@pim ~]$ tree /sys/class/tty/ttyACM0/
  /sys/class/tty/ttyACM0/
  |-- dev
  `-- device -> ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.1/usb3/3-1/3-1:1.1

Why does udev have to do anything special for acm devices, they should
work just fine. Do your devices not work properly somehow?

thanks,

Thanks a lot for replying to my latest posting :-)

Every time I want to use the USB Modem for the first time after a system
(re)boot I have to do

mknod /dev/ttyACM0 c 166 0

manually to get the device file though

/sys/class/tty/ttyACM0/ is present

root@localhost ~]# ls -l /sys/class/tty/ttyACM0/
total 0
-r--r--r--    1 root     root         4096 May 12 13:33 dev
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            0 May 12 13:33 device
-> ../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:10.1/usb2/2-1/2-1.1/2-1.1:2.0
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            0 May 12 14:05 driver
-> ../../../bus/usb/drivers/cdc_acm
[root@localhost ~]#

[root@localhost ~]# cat /sys/class/tty/ttyACM0/dev
166:0
[root@localhost ~]#

Does running:
  /sbin/udevstart
create the node for you?
