but it did the trick
definitely works again now that I replaced the '=' with '='

# udevtest /block/uba block
udevtest.c: looking at device '/block/uba' from subsystem 'block'
udevtest.c: opened class_dev->name='uba'
udev_rules.c: rule applied, 'uba' becomes 'cruzer'
udev_add.c: creating device node '/dev/cruzer', major = '180', minor = '0', mode = '0660', uid = '0', gid = '25'

udevtest.c: looking at device '/block/uba/uba1' from subsystem 'block'
udevtest.c: opened class_dev->name='uba1'
udev_rules.c: rule applied, 'uba1' becomes 'cruzer1'
udev_rules.c: IMPORT executes '/sbin/vol_id --export /dev/.tmp-180-1'
udev_rules.c: rule applied, added symlink 'disk/by-uuid/1BC4-2D63'
udev_rules.c: add symlink 'disk/by-uuid/1BC4-2D63'
udev_rules.c: rule applied, added symlink 'disk/by-label/USB_DISK'
udev_rules.c: add symlink 'disk/by-label/USB_DISK'
udev_add.c: creating device node '/dev/cruzer1', major = '180', minor = '1', mode = '0660', uid = '0', gid = '25'
and the same with the '=' rule:
...weeeeeelll
I am positively sure that changing the rules from '=' to '=' was the
only thing I did, but now it works again also with '=' in place instead
of '='
I have no idea what else could have happened.
just a few more hours of uptime
nothing else installed, nothing deinstalled nothing configured
only some work done...
those are the things I hate most. having a problem sloved and not
knowing how...
thnx for you help
greets
