Hello all,
since my upgrade from Kernel 2.6.8 (Suse 9.2-Kernel) to Vanilla-Kernel
2.6.12.5 needs my Linux to boot several minutes. It seems to stop when
trying to start udev. The messages are as following:
creating udev
creating devices
(with originial Suse-Kernel 2.6.8 ist works much faster)
After that Linux continues booting normally. Is it right that I need a
specific udev-version for this specific kernel-version? As I have learned
from the forum is that I need to install minimum udev 0.58. That's what I've
done but I still have the boot problem. Do I have to change any config-files
as well?
Regards,
Tom

This may go away with version 059. But read carefully the udev
RELEASE-NOTES, cause a lot of stuff changed with that release and
hotplug.d/ and dev.d/ is no longer handled by default.
Anyway, you should better install a recent release if you depend on
features of a newer kernel. The kernel and the installed software has
too may dependencies for safely doing an update like this.
