As requested in the /var/log/messages here is some info.
The device is an usb to serial converter.
Kernel 2.6.12-1.1378_FC3
wait_for_sysfs[14088]: either wait_for_sysfs (udev 039) needs an update
to handle the device
'/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb2/2-2/2-2:1.0/ttyUSB0' properly
(bus specific file unavailable) or the
sysfs-support of your device's driver needs to be fixed, please report
to <linux-hotplug-devel@lists.sourceforge.net>

udev 039 + kernel 2.6.12 = non-working combination. Upgrade udev and the
message will go away.
