Kay, I've been lurking on the list for a couple weeks now and appreciate
the info provided and all the effort everyone has put into developing
udev.
I've read all the udev docs I can find and am puzzled by the above.
Maybe
I've missed something important.
I'm developing an embedded system based on Gentoo, currently using
2.6.14-gentoo-r4 and udev-073, and would like the system to be pure
udev.
I'm starting udev early in the initrd/initramfs using the method
described
in udev-start.sh. I'm a little confused about what else I need to start
and in what order to get udev properly up and running. In the init
scripts
I'm starting hald, coldplug and hotplug early in the process.
Should I be starting the daemon, and if I do, should I be killing it,
and when?
Thanks,
Rod

Simple, don't do. Never create files in userspace from inside the kernel.
Use something that triggers an event and let userspace create that file, or
just make sure it is always there, regardless of the kernel state.
