My first need for it sure is. It's in an early user space init program. Some prototype code I have worked on just a bunch of mknod(2) calls for now to set up a few devices I know my machines have. The next step in this project is to get away from statically coded devices and utilize what is in sysfs to build /dev. From there, it will then have devices it can mount filesystems with. My project isn't really about hotplugging anything. Once the full system is up and running, then the init scripts can start up whatever deamon is needed, etc. But I need to get at least some devices made in /dev so they can be used, such as /dev/console and any block device that could have a filesystem. Other devices may be able to be deferred until later. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Phil Howard KA9WGN | http://linuxhomepage.com/ http://ham.org/ | | (first name) at ipal.net | http://phil.ipal.org/ http://ka9wgn.ham.org/ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
