Yeh. 

You can also have id/serial numbers for all SCSI devices. The SCSI command
(INQUIRY VPD page 0x83) is not disk specific, I think SLES9 now lists
tapes under /dev/disk/by-id.

Best if all kernel and user code *can* use it in the same way, and set the
same env variables (at least ID_SERIAL).

And it also blocks you if your gateway is in spam cop :-(
