actually it is hard to get minor. For major you can use /proc/devices:
major=$(awk '$2 = "cmm" {print $1}' /proc/devices)
mknod /dev/cmm0 c $major 0
you do not even need udev rule for that, it can be run as postinstall from
modprobe.
