Hello,
I want to develop Terminal with an USB Connector. If an USB Stick is
inserted a application on the terminal shall let you select some option
and then some data will be transfered on the USB Stick.
I played around with dbus, had and ivman and got it managed that the Stick
will be automaticly mounted and to execute a script.
The main Problem with this solution is that it quite takes some time. I
would like to know if it is possilbe to speed up that process. Maybe it
helps that I know i only have 1 USB port and only USB sticks should be
processed. The longest time waiting is when syslog show the message:
usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
Can I somehow decrase the time which has to be waited here?
All other steps are quite fast.
If its not possible to decrease the time I would as least like to react
earlier, so that after inserting the stick there is some kind of please
wait message.
What is the first possibilty to react on inserting a new usb stick, its ok
if there are no drivers loaded and it is not mounted yet?
Thank You
Jascha Schubert

That time is due to the timeout in the usb-storage driver where it wants
to wait 5 seconds before scanning the device to handle devices that take
a while to get started up properly.
If you feel you can safely lower that time, just write a new value (in
seconds) to /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/delay_use
Hope this helps,
