Hello
I have 2 mice connected to my system. One on PS/2 one on USB.
When I boot my system, the chances of the USB mouse being startup is
about 1 in 15. i.e.: out of 15 typical boots, one time the USB mouse
will be recognized.
If I unplug the mouse and replug it back in, everything works fine.
This leads me to believe that something is not quite right with
coldplug. I have been trying to get this issue resolved on gentoo
forums ( http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-450444-highlight-.html
), but no luck yet!
Its not a high priority issue, but I would like to see this working.
Is there a series of steps I could follow and provide better debugging
information, please do point me in the right direction.
What all I have already tried:
- Switching the mouse to different USB ports
-
System Information:
- uname: "Linux Gandalf 2.6.15-gentoo-r1 #1 PREEMPT Tue Apr 4 23:14:42
EDT 2006 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2600+ GNU/Linux"
- coldplug version: 20040920-r1 (starts on boot)
- hotplug version: 20040923-r2 (starts on boot)
- USB modules are compiled into the kernel
- nothing is being modprobed, if I plug-out / plug-in the mouse.
- not using any custom udev rule
- no errors in system log / dmesg
- the boot process doesn't even see the usb mouse!
- Lines generated in system log on plug-out / plugin:
Jul 11 18:11:53 Gandalf usb 2-2: new low speed USB device using
ohci_hcd and address 3
Jul 11 18:11:53 Gandalf input: Logitech USB-PS/2 Trackball as
/class/input/input2
Jul 11 18:11:53 Gandalf input: USB HID v1.00 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2
Trackball] on usb-0000:00:02.0-2
Any help / information / pointers in getting this to work would be
highly appreciated.
Thanks
Ajay

Odd are it's a usb issue.
Does the kernel discover the USB mouse at boot time all the time
properly?

Can you try a newer kernel? 2.6.17 perhaps?
