Greetings!
I am looking for hotplug HOWTOs or documentation for:
- using hotplug with automounting,
- USB devices on ARM (ARM920T, SoC) embedded
platforms; toolchain used is GNU cross-toolchain
2.95.3, and
- using 2.4.x Linux kernel.
Can hotplug-ng or diethotplug be cross-compiled for
ARM?
I have been able to use hotplug for x86, but, it seems
to use lot of tools like sed, grep which don't exist
in my embedded environment.
I have also used autofs on x86. I did download autofs
source code, but the compilation build generates
shared libraries.
Appreciate any links/tutorials/HOWTOs/documentation in
this regard,
Thanking you,
SK

Hotplug-NG (Greg Kroah-Hartmann's project) basically evolved into udev. Udev,
just like original hotplug-ng, is 2.6 only.

Yes, that is a significant nuisance; the old hotplug scripts wouldn't work with
eg. busybox (unless you modify them slightly), or at least I failed to do so.

I hope I'll offend noone if I suggest my work for this; it can do exactly what
you need: it can work with 2.4 kernels, you can write rules (so with adequate
rules, you should be able to perform automounting)... I didn't test it on ARM
(having no box with ARM at my disposal), but I'm absolutely willing to patch it
according to your needs and suggestions...

Hi iSteve,
Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks.
I shall try it out on x86, and let you know.
