Hello !
How can I arrange that udev (kernel 2.6.16 or 2.6.17, both with the same
problem) creates /dev/dvb/AdapterX instead (or
plus) /dev/.static/dev/dvb/AdapterX ?
Until now every try to do manually failed :-( Thanks a lot, Falk

what kind of device is that? a pci card? will you find the
device in the /sys/ tree? and does it have a "dev" file at
some node?
once you found it, udevinfo can be used to get information about it,
which can be used for writing rules. for example
udevinfo -a -p /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.0/usb1/usbdev1.1_ep00/dev
(all in one line) shows me the properties of my usb host controller.
google for "writing udev rules", a HOWTO document with good explanations
how it is done.
good luck!
Andreas

Build the driver as a module, it's broken.

It is a usb stick. I searched myself and additionally let search for "*dvb*"
and "*em*" (name of the driver) without success. The usb ports themself and
i.e. the soundcard I can see.
The only thing I found was /sys/bus/usb/drivers/em28xx "em28xx" is the name of
the driver for the dvb-t usb stick
So I guess I have to get the usb stick listed somewhere in /sys/devices ? And
how ?

I'm not the expert here, but I think there should be a symlink in that
directory to any devices using that driver. For instance, I have a USB
printer.
$ ls /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usblp/
2-3:1.0 bind module new_id unbind
$ ls -l /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usblp/2-3\:1.0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2006-12-06 10:08
/sys/bus/usb/drivers/usblp/2-3:1.0 ->
../../../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0e.0/usb2/2-3/2-3:1.0
$ udevinfo -a -p /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0e.0/usb2/2-3/2-3:1.0 |
grep product
SYSFS{product}="DeskJet 810C"
SYSFS{product}="OHCI Host Controller"
If you look at all the output from udevinfo, the "DesktJet 810C"
actually comes from the parent device, but this is enough information
to write the following rule:
BUS="usb", SYSFS{product}="DeskJet 810C", SYMLINK+="printer/deskjet810c"
I think with udev >= 098, the syntax should be
SUBSYSTEMS="usb", ATTRS{product}="DeskJet 810C",
SYMLINK+="printer/deskjet810c"
I'm probably wrong on the new syntax, though, but the old one will still work.

You need to build your own kernel, and build the driver for your device
as a module. A google search should give you loads of documents
telling you how to do this.
