Well, I finally got udev running on a 2.6.10 kernel (its an
embedded, stripped down board).
I'm using udev-068...I got it working...
Is there a table of which udevs work with which kernels...and
instructions
of how to get it running from scratch?
Most of the tutorials have to do with modifying an existing distribution
or writing rules...
I figured out how all the hot plug works by reverse engineering a
fedora3 system...
I tried to move up to udev-092 (the last version with udevsend) for my
future work
(I'm going to need to support a number of kernels at different levels).
When I went to udev-092 (which has udevmonitor, which I found very
useful), nothing appeared
in /dev -- even after I put in /lib/udev/udev_run_{devd,hotplugd} (which
it complained it wasn't there...

No, but I suppose you could find everything by digging in the release
notes and README.Debian and the changelog of the Debian package.

Not really, but if you understand how the kernel, udev and
module-init-tools are related it should be easy. :-)

No way, sorry. To be mostly safe you need a 2.6.15 kernel, but it still
has some races corrected only in more recent versions (at least most of
them can be worked around with a few rules. Debian packages have them).
