Hi,

This is regarding SCSI kernel modules (scsi_mod, sd_mod - disk modules).

System Configuration:

------------------------------

Kernel: 2.6.14.3 ppc GNU/Linux

OS: Debian GNU/Linux 3.1

UDEV version: 056

On inserting USB Mass Storage Device following messages are generated
(/var/log/messages):

Dec 16 16:24:04 kernel: [ 2480.307174] scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB
Mass Storage devices

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.324002] Vendor: sz.zeyan Model: USB
Flash Drive Rev: %%z!Y

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.334402] Type: Direct-Access
ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.365767] SCSI device sda: 257280 512-byte
hdwr sectors (132 MB)

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.376937] sda: Write Protect is off

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.411969] SCSI device sda: 257280 512-byte
hdwr sectors (132 MB)

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.422894] sda: Write Protect is off

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.431777] sda: sda1

Dec 16 16:24:09 kernel: [ 2485.445774] Attached scsi removable disk sda
at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0

Dec 16 16:24:10 scsi.agent[3897]: sd_mod: can't be loaded (for
disk)

I am not able to get "add" event from /etc/udev/rules.d/udev.rules!!

Please take a look at last line. I think without having this module
(sd_mod.ko) SCSI disk support is not possible.

Following are the modules available under the following directory:

/lib/modules/2.6.14.3/kernel/drivers/scsi# ls -la

total 392

drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 7 2006 .

drwxr-xr-x 18 root root 4096 Apr 7 2006 ..

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 23139 Apr 7 2006 ch.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 22714 Apr 7 2006 ide-scsi.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 64352 Apr 7 2006 osst.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 38356 Apr 7 2006 scsi_debug.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 38437 Apr 7 2006 scsi_transport_fc.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16441 Apr 7 2006 scsi_transport_iscsi.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 29406 Apr 7 2006 scsi_transport_spi.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 51109 Apr 7 2006 sg.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 22210 Apr 7 2006 sr_mod.ko

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 49844 Apr 7 2006 st.ko

"scsi_mod.ko" and "sd_mod.ko" are not available.

Hotplug is installed and working.

I had gone through this link: http://linuxgazette.net/133/tag.html ----
section "Modules" for more information.

Please help in this regard.
