Hello,

I am a newbie for kernel-hacking. I have a problem with hotplug
handler. That's a kind of handset, on which the system should detect
the hotplug events with a special program like 'pnphandler'. It will
work fine when I do
% echo "/usr/bin/pnphandler" > /proc/sys/kernel/hotplug

But how can I write this into kernel or rootdisk instead of doing it
again and again after reboot.

Thanks & regards,
Adam

The kernel config option CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH should be what you
need.

Hope this helps,

I am sorry. That is the mail agent's fault. :)

I'll sent it again to the list.

Thanks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just grep the .config file. But there are no CONFIG options named as
CONFIG_UEVENT_HELPER_PATH

It seem this option was beginning to builtin from 2.6.24. However, I
am using 2.6.18.
Before this version, is there any method to solve this?

Adam

A: No.
Q: Should I include quotations after my reply?

2.6.18 is no longer supported by the community as it is many years old
and very obsolete and in many places, insecure. If you are stuck using
this version, please contact your vendor for support.

Just patch your kernel to change the startup value for this field.

good luck,

Thanks greg.

Thanks for help me on this question and how to use this mailing list
efficiently.

I got your point about patching the kernel. But I don't know where
should I start with.
Would you please teach me where can I find this value or how can I grep it?
Thank you very much.

A simple grep of the kernel source tree should find this value for you.
As I don't have a copy of 2.6.18 around at the moment, I don't recall
its exact location.

And again, if you are stuck with 2.6.18, I would consider contacting
your vendor for this kind of thing, as they are the ones that need to
support it.

good luck,

greg k-h
