Hello,
I have a problem that's happening with two Sony MemoryStick readers, and
it's the same on two different systems. Both systems are kernel 2.6.8 with
udev 030.
The first reader is made by SmartDisk, model MSUSB. When I plug this in, it
always shows up as /dev/sd?, and the actual MemoryStick plugged into it
shows up as /dev/sd?1. But the problem is, 99% of the time, the sd?1 device
never shows up. The only time it consistently shows up is right after I
modprobe all my USB modules. It doesn't matter whether the MemoryStick is
plugged into the reader when I plug the reader into the USB port, either. I
can unplug the reader and re-plug it in all day long and the sd?1 never
shows up.
The second reader is made by PNY, model USWB2K05. It gets named the same
way (sd? with the actual memstick getting sd?1). But this one actually
always gets the memstick device itself recognized -- as long as the memstick
is plugged in when you plug the reader's USB cable in. Otherwise, the
memstick device never shows up, just the reader device. Likewise, if you
remove the memstick from the device while the USB cable is still plugged in,
the sd?1 device never disappears.
Is there some way around this problem?
I also have a PQI I-Stick flash disk, which plugs directly into a USB port
without a reader device, and it works fine; it always shows up as /dev/sd?.
Thanks,
Anthony DiSante
